inner space
Jay Walker’s Inner Space is a formal series with play of color and form, and edges in reality. Walker’s experience when closing his eye, inspired him to create this series. Based on the technique of hatching that Jasper Johns used frequently, Inner Space has its own set of rules with the feel of a game. Always use complimentary colors, 14 of each, half warm, half cool. Lines are solid but do not blend or cross each other. The rules exist but change with each image. Walker uses spray paint in the background to create a sense of atmospheric space. The colored lines are flat, loose, and less dimensional, but the images themselves exist in a place of depth.
